Darwin

Situated in the northern most corner of Australia, Darwin is a thinly populated capital city of the Northern Territory, considered to be closer to some of the Asian cities such as Jakarta, than it is to other cities within Australia. Darwin was named after the British natural historian Charles Darwin. Charles Darwin University higher education institute catering to both national and international students.

Darwin has a reputation as one of the prominent cities for trade and commerce due to its port and locality to Asia and the pacific. The city was most completely destroyed in WWII by Japanese air raids, but has been developed into one of the more modern cities today. The Stuart Highway which connects the north to the south runs through the state to Port Augusta in South Australia.

Darwin enjoys a tropical climate, making tourism its main industry. With the wet and dry seasons spread through the year, it is also said to have stunning displays of lightning during the rainy season.

There are many attractions in Darwin both historical and modern. One of the most impressive is the Australian Aviation Heritage Centre in Winnellie. The main showpiece is a B-52 bomber on loan from US. Aquascene is a natural cove that enables tourists to feed the fish that come in to the beach. Feeding the fish began decades ago by the owners of the property as hobby. Due to its popularity they began to allow the general public in for feeding times. Situated bordering the suburb of Leanyer, the Leanyer Recreation Park is managed by the YMCA offering free facilities for relaxing and entertainment. The park has a sports ground, water recreation activities with barbeque and picnic areas.
