The Adelaide Festival of the Arts initially stared in the early 1960s saw a rapid expansion in its activities that the cultural centers available were not adequate. Hence then Premier Don Dunstan selected and area by the River Torrens for the building of the Adelaide Festival Centre. This is the first multi-purpose performing arts centre in Australia.
